This is England

This year is all about improving my portfolio with several more tests planned throughout 2012. This month I wanted to shot a retro 1980′s Androgynous style photoshoot.

 

Shot on location at Hallam Mill in Manchester the shots really remind me of the Drama TV Series This is England; feeling old I actually remember the 1980s style being born in 1982!

Jasmin Model Portfolio Update

For nearly 10 years I have been shooting model portfolios and its an area of my job I find most enjoyable especially when my clients do so well from the images I create for them.

Quite recently Singer Katy Saxon who I photographed just before Christmas dropped me a line to say

“Your pictures have got me so many jobs thank you sooo much Rory!!!!”

It’s comments like these that make my job worthwhile, making a difference.

Jasmin actress/model booked her first model portfolio with me nearly a year ago and I was glad to see her return for a portfolio update photographed on location at the Abode Hotel in Manchester. Makeup & Hair was brilliantly styled by Lisa Murray Makeup Artist.

Jasmin is enjoying wonderful success as a model, she recently shot a campaign for Episode Management in Barcelona, and will be shortly be modelling a hair campaign for a major Salon Chain. Its music to my ear’s when my clients are successful as a result of the Model Portfolio’s I help to produce.

Lifestyle Monthly Magazine commissioned me to shoot their makeup column this month, its great to be working with the magazine on another beauty feature. Hair & Beauty portraiture is one of my favourite area’s of photography and I am looking forward to working with some great salons who have commissioned me to shoot their marketing and competition entries for the Wella Colour Trophy over the next few weeks.

The shoot this month was inspired by a Calvin Klien Shoot from the 1990′s featuring Kate Moss. Nita Malata Makeup Artist did a great job with Model Tamar’s makeup & hair; also writing the article below please read and try and pick up a copy of the magazine in the next few days. Your Portfolio is the most important asset to any model, photographer, fashion stylist, hair stylist and makeup artist. To be competitive you must update your portfolio regularly with new work taking the opportunity to learn new skills, helping to provide your future clients with the best photography possible.

Religiously I test twice a month; either working on my own projects or collaborating with other creatives on theirs. In 2012 I will be doing a great deal of Testing, if you are a model, designer, fashion stylist, makeup artist, hair stylist or retoucher please get in touch.

This week I arranged a test with Kit from Nemesis Models at the Liverpool Studio. Kit was looking for some Topshop style edgy photography for her book and we spent half a day working on several looks. The images look great and I’m looking forward to working with Kit again the near future. Nita Malata did a wonderful job with hair & makeup.
