Nikki Belle Photoshoot

My client, the beautiful and talented singer Nikki Belle commissioned me to shoot her latest Promotional Photography at the Liverpool studio this week.

I’ve been working with Nikki for several years now and the photos just keep getting better and better. Nikki’s sister also a professional model posed in a few of the sets and the images really stand out! I’m looking forward to working with her again in the near future.

Archiving & Spending is well worth it!

This past week has been expensive, not only have I replaced my broken camera with another Nikon D700, but purchased a new laptop and Hard Drives to store my ever growing library of images.

My usual workflow or process of backing up/archiving images is to shoot, upload to my mac, edit the images then burn to DVD. This is a sound method but with one major drawback, piles and piles of DVD’s.

To solve the problem of archiving and to reduce the stacks, I have enlisted the help of Aperture 3. Creating huge Aperture Image Library’s on portable hard drives like my new Western Digital 1TB Studio Passport Drives. The drives are super fast utilising Firewire 800 connections. I can now store a few hundred thousand images and then back up for extra security on my Desktop Western Digital 2TB Book Desktop Drive.

With everything now sorted into Aperture Library’s I can now index my images by date, camera, lenses used and much more, with the ability sync Library’s between my desktop and laptop. Aperture also works in Harmony with Photoshelter and iCloud allowing me to share albums with clients and create very quick proof pages for them to select images. Now feeling more organised I can concentrate extra time on organising photoshoots and marketing rather than the workflow cluttering my desk searching through the stacks of Dvd’s!

Whist sorting through my DVD’s I scanned more efficiently through my back catalogue and decided to retouch some archive images. The below photograph was Shoot in London back in 2010 from a punk girl band. I love the energy from this photoshoot, you can check out all the images on my Photoshelter Gallery.

I highly recommend to any photographer to organize their workflow and library’s more efficiently. Especially with an exhibition of my work planned for this year; I am scanning through my back catalogue for the exhibit stay tuned for more info on this in a few weeks.

Heather Marie Singer Photoshoot

This week at the Liverpool Studio I was delighted to photograph Wartime Tribute Singer Heather Marie. I photographed Heather’s first artist portfolio back in August 2009 and after 2 years Heather booked me for a new portfolio update.

I arranged a great makeup & hair artist to style Heather in a 1940′s style and the images look great. I hope to see Heather again in the near future for another photoshoot.

Singer Adam Kaufman Edited Shots

Reading the newspaper today I was quit disturbed to find Canon Nikon and Olympus are facing stiff competition from Sony who are producing professional SLR cameras without Mirror lenses.

Sony has designed a translucent replacement, ideal for super fast focusing and using instead fully digitized displays. What this means in layman’s terms is that traditional optical viewfinders will be taken away, and a computer inside your camera will now tell you what your image looks like before you take it. Removing more of the creative process away from the photographer. The photographer won’t be able to look through the lens with their naked eye using his or her own intuition and creative skill.

I believe that advances of this kind aren’t advances at all, it takes away the creativity and removing mirror lenses is a big blow.

In terms of my work I seem to be going backwards, although a photographer who utilises digital SLR cameras. I am using more and more film on personal projects, and will shortly be introducing packages were clients can request film shoots rather than digital….. Ok Rant over.

Last week I completed a shoot for Adam Kaufman singer, who performs a great deal of swing and Rat Pack music. Inspired by shots of Frank Sinatra from the 50’s and 60’s. I wanted Adam to look effortlessly cool in his images; Frank Sinatra seemed to pull off this look in a great deal of his shots and I think we achieved this in Adam’s photos. I didn’t want to use any airbrushing in the shots; all that has been done is a simple B&W conversion.

Nikki Belle Photoshoot

In 2011 want to concentrate on my editorial and portraiture photography. This month I set up a few tests firstly with singer Nikki Belle who I photographed in 2010.

Inspired by the cover of Harper’s Bazaar we shot several looks; Nikki’s expressions where flawless, Gemma Wall makeup artist did a great job . I am planning to shoot more singers and actors throughout 2011 so stay tuned.
