Rebecca Cordell Test More Shots

Over the past few weeks I’ve had some down time giving me a chance to have  look through my Back Catalogue. I discovered some more gems from my photoshoot with Rebecca Cordell Model; photographed  some months ago, and with a little retouching I think they look amazing let me know what you think?

Frustration!

Lingerie is an area, which my portfolio has been lacking for sometime, and this week I arranged a test with Model Kate Waldron @ Nemesis Models. We shot at the Abode Hotel in Manchester with hair and makeup by Nita Malata.

Frustration! was the theme I wanted to convey in these images, and Model Kate created some amazing looks and shapes. I am looking forward to working with Kate on another project next week.

I will also be jetting off to Barcelona on the 29th for two weeks and I’m interested in testing while I’m their so please get in touch.

Kit Test

Your Portfolio is the most important asset to any model, photographer, fashion stylist, hair stylist and makeup artist. To be competitive you must update your portfolio regularly with new work taking the opportunity to learn new skills, helping to provide your future clients with the best photography possible.

Religiously I test twice a month; either working on my own projects or collaborating with other creatives on theirs. In 2012 I will be doing a great deal of Testing, if you are a model, designer, fashion stylist, makeup artist, hair stylist or retoucher please get in touch.

This week I arranged a test with Kit from Nemesis Models at the Liverpool Studio. Kit was looking for some Topshop style edgy photography for her book and we spent half a day working on several looks. The images look great and I’m looking forward to working with Kit again the near future. Nita Malata did a wonderful job with hair & makeup.

Lingerie Shoot

Yes i’m still testing & its important

As a photographer you should try new techniques and ideas and setup test shoots. You are only as good as your portfolio and your book should always be kept updated with new looks and trends.

In my opinion a photographer should aways be shooting, a test can be simple or very complex depending on what level and how much money and time you have to invest.

For me it all starts with an idea, being inspired by a film, an advert, a magazine or even a work of art. My most recent test shoot below was a simple idea inspired by an Agyness Deyn shoot; I wanted some fierce portraiture for my book. I found model India Lownes and Makeup Artist Francesca Dalla-Riva who loved the ideas; we spent the afternoon working on these looks.

A Simple Portraiture Setup

Quite recently I have been approached by several photographers seeking one-on-one tuition, particularity in the sphere of portraiture photography. I thought it would be interesting and helpful to post a handy guide to one of my most common lighting setups for portraiture.

If you are looking for one-to-one photography tuition or photography courses please check out my Courses Page and see what I have to offer.

Simple Portraiture Setup

Most of my portraits are shot with one light and I often use this simple setup to create some great shots. The photo of model Claire Leatherbarrow was taken with this handy one light setup.

Portraiture Lighting Setup

For this kind of portraiture I almost always use my favourite portrait lens, the Nikkor 50 mm/1.8. It gives me nice results every time, and the closer I go, the better it gets.

During this session I shot ordinary headshots, half-length portraits and everything in-between. Going further away than that, I think the lens loses a bit of its magic. And a portrait should be pretty close-up, I’m not that interested in knees or feet.

Using only one light is a great way to see how just the smallest adjustments can create a very different picture. Turn the head a little bit, change the angle of the camera or just take a step left. Try and have a crack at this one light setup and let me know how you get on!
